Calves - Bottle Feeding

This year we bought 18 Holstein calves to raise and eventually sell.  The next set of pics were requested by none other than our liddle cousin, Ellyana, and also, of course, her siblings, Janora, Kel, and Baby Ken.  Hello, all! We love and miss you!!!
Anyway, here are the sweeties.  Mind you, I don't have pics of all 18, just a mixture of some.  But we have named them, well, not all of them... Still working on the perfect name to fit the personalities.  And yes, they do have personalities.  Several are named after the 12 sons of Jacob.  For instance, the one below is Asher. I think... I named him that right after we got him, cuz he was so playful and happy in his new home.  (Asher means, "happy".)
Lets see if I can remember them all...
Mad Eye Mooney (known as Mooney), Asher, Reuben, Simeon, Judah, Benjamin, Dal, Mac, Peter Panda (cuz he has eyes like a panda bear, he's my fave), Samson (cuz he's huge and very energetic), Knutt (cuz he looks crazy), Tug, Stubs, and Mask.  That's excluding four who don't currently have a name... But we'll find some!

This is what the powdered milk looks like when we mix it.  We buy 50 pound bags, and we go through them fast.  In the end, the calves will have consumed one each (approximately).

The bottles hold 2 quarts.

And, boy, do they love it.

Asher again...

Oh, and here's our newest addition to the dairy barn.  A kitten!  We've named her Sable and she is the cutest thing!  One morning she just walked right up to us, all alone, and immediately started purring the moment we picked her up.  She loves to play, as you can tell.

Misty mornings are so beautiful!

Fall colors are finally here!

And in conclusion...

Well, there you have it!  Basically, we just raise the calves for the money... Well, whatever money is left when you subtract what you've put in... So, I guess we just do it just to do it. *sighs* Ah, well. =]
They get fed twice a day: 7am in the morning and 5pm in the evening.  So...
I hope you enjoyed these pics, thanks for keeping up with us!
Until next time.

Fairfarren, for now!
